- Find C without a sticker.Use the group of two black keys as the landmark.
- Play a five-note pattern.Keep one finger over each key and listen for equal notes.
- Read direction before names.Notice whether notes repeat, step or skip.

Practise the idea, not the paragraph
After a short explanation, move to the keyboard. A note-finding drill should end with finding notes. A reading drill should end with playing a pattern you did not memorise first. If a guide does not lead to an action, it is not finished.
Find every C, then every F. Close your eyes between attempts so you are using the black-key pattern rather than the previous location.
Return to a real song
Use Ode to Joy to test a fixed five-note position, or Twinkle, Twinkle to practise one small reach beyond it. The song gives your ear a way to check the result.
